I came to know Professor Steven M. Albert in 2013 when I was at the Department of Sociology at Pitt. I was looking for collaboration with an expert in public health and epidemiology to work on Chronic Kidney Disease of Unknown Etiology (CKDu) in Sri Lanka. My initial discussions with Professor Albert on the subject proved fruitful, and I joined the Department of Behavioral and Community Health Sciences in 2015 as a visiting professor. We produced several research papers together, Professor Albert visited Sri Lanka for field research, and we developed a productive research collaboration between BCHS and Sri Lankan universities. Our collaboration provided me an enormous opportunity to augment my research career, and I certainly learned a lot from Professor Albert. As the department chair, Professor Albert acted with dedication and tenacity and served as a prudent steward of BCHS. I wish Professor Albert every success in his future endeavors.
Best regards, Amrasiri de Silva
Adjunct Professor
