New Course Alert: The Emergence and Global Spread of COVID-19

A new, 2-credit course, IDM: 2019: The Emergence and Global Spread of COVID-19, is being offered for the first time in the fall 2020 term. Students will learn about the emergence of the SARS-CoV-2 virus in November 2019 and its global spread to the present date. While the course will have an infectious disease prevention and control focus, it will also cross-cut with all the major public health disciplines. Topics to be explored include: statistical modeling of the COVID-19 pandemic, health policy, community response, and genetic predisposition and change.

The course will emphasize small group work related to designing targeted interventions based on examples of successful mitigation. Class sessions will be held online Mondays from 12-2pm with the potential for lectures and in-person, small group work held outdoors.

All Pitt Public Health graduate students and undergraduate students (with permission) are eligible to enroll.
