michael barmada
Michael Barmada Fund in Human Genetics

The late M. Michael Barmada was a beloved member of the Pitt community and an integral part of the faculty in the Department of Human Genetics. This fund honors his legacy by supporting initiatives that reflect his dedication to his students and love of teaching.

By supporting this fund, you will continue to celebrate Mike's passion for the global dissemination of scientific knowledge, teaching, and the advancement of human genetics research. Contributions will support tuition, travel or other educational expenses for human genetics students at any level.

Harvey Co Chien Endowed Scholarship for Biostatistics

After looking for a meaningful way to give back to the University, he decided to create an endowed fund for master’s students in the Department of Biostatistics. Noting that international students are at a particular disadvantage by not being able to apply for student loans, Co Chien thought back to when he was a teaching assistant and how funding allowed him to finish his degree. Co Chien decided this was an opportunity to invest in recruiting and educating the very best students; giving them a top-notch education, while developing character and teaching integrity in the field.

Dawn Gideon Scholarship for MHA Students

Provides scholarship assistance for students in the MHA program whose talents lean towards creative problem solving and an understanding of the value all individuals bring to the process.

Nathan Hershey
Nathan Hershey Endowment in Health Administration

The Nathan Hershey Endowment in Health Administration is an annual award granted to a full-time student enrolled in the Master of Health Administration (MHA) program. Secondary criteria shall include need. Hershey’s former students and colleagues started this fund in his name, honoring exceptional MHA students based on their merit and potential to contribute to the profession.

David Hunter
Hunter Group Health Policy and Management Student Scholarship Award

This endowed fund provides tuition assistance for students in the Department of Health Policy and Management.

CC Li
C.C. and Clara Li Endowed Scholarship

Devoted to advancing the recruitment of top master's and doctoral applicants to the Department of Human Genetics, the endowment can be used to support tuition, travel, or other educational expenses for HuGen students studying at any level. 

The award honors the legacy of C.C. Li, who served as chair of the Department of Biostatistics and was a biostatistics and human genetics faculty member at Pitt Public Health for more than 45 years. 

Tom Priselac
Thomas and Jody Priselac Endowed Fund for Healthcare Leadership

Provides support for MHA students participating in selected professional and leadership development activities nationally, including professional association conferences, academic team competitions, professional networking, and other health management career path opportunities.

Amy Sain Memorial Scholarship Fund

The Amy Sain Memorial Scholarship Fund honors Amy Sain, a 2004 graduate of the University of Pittsburgh Genetic Counseling Program. Amy passed away at the age of 36 following a five year battle with brain cancer. 
Amy was an exceptional student, who achieved academic success as a graduate student while continually supporting her classmates. This scholarship is a tribute to Sain's passion for genetic counseling and life and to the ways she inspired her classmates, colleagues, friends, and family. 

Becky Surma
Surma Scholarship for Long-Term Healthcare Administration in Policy and Aging

This endowed fund provides tuition support to graduate-level School of Public Health students who are Pennsylvania residents and have demonstrated an interest in long-term health care administration or policies.

Kim Sutton-Tyrell
Kim Sutton-Tyrell

Supporting departmental programs and activities, the Kim Sutton-Tyrrell Fund was established in 2013 in memory of Sutton-Tyrrell’s many contributions to the Department of Epidemiology and her commitment to the advancement of public health on both local and global levels.

Bob Yee
The Bob Yee Public Health Scholarship

By supporting this fund, you will continue Yee's life-long commitment to developing the next generation of scientists and public health practitioners. Contributions support tuition, travel, or other educational expenses for master’s students in the Department of Infectious Diseases and Microbiology.

Carol L. McCallister Student Resource Fund

The McAllister Fund was established to honor Carol L. McAllister, cultural anthropologist, community activist and University of Pittsburgh faculty member. In all that she did, McAllister fought against social injustice and worked to make the lives of women and children better. She challenged herself, her colleagues and most of all, her students to exceed expectations and always to give voice to those who are not heard. Awards made from this scholarship fund will support students who want to carry on McAllister’s legacy.

Karen S. Peterson Memorial Research Award for Women's Health

The Peterson Award was established in memory of Karen S. Peterson, an alumna and faculty member at Pitt Public Health. This award is intended to assist with research or practice leading to improvement in women’s health.

The Joseph and Brigida Ricci Award Fund

The Ricci Award was established by Dr. Edmund M. Ricci to support master's and doctoral students in BCHS and assist with recruitment and retention of students. 

Silverman Scholarship Fund

The Silverman Fund was established by Dr. Myrna and Mr. Lee Silverman to support doctoral students in BCHS with their coursework and dissertation research. Applicants must have an undergraduate degree in anthropology or in another social science and demonstrate merit, need and skills in qualitative and ethnographic research design.
