Competencies & Curriculum

Our curriculum includes a multidisciplinary core, departmental MPH core, practicum, and research project, all aligned with the CEPH competency model for MPH students. While 45 credits are needed for program completion, students can take an extra 15 credits for a certificate or customized electives. The practicum is usually held in the summer term.

Practicum Field Experience

Masters Essay

MPH students must complete a supervised capstone project integrating coursework, field placement, and work experiences. MPH in HPM students are urged to base their master's essay on practicum-related topics, but can also address wider health policy or management issues with advisor consent. The project culminates in a written report and faculty presentation.

The MPH program provides a cluster of opportunities to encourage and support the student’s professional and leadership development both within and outside the classroom. This includes activities within the course Health Systems, Leadership and Professional Development required for MPH and MHA students, the Public Health Leader-in-Residence, a competency self-assessment process, and the supervised practicum experience.
