HPM Seminars

The Department of Health Policy and Management presents a regular speaker series each term, generally on alternating Tuesdays at noon in A622 Public Health. Diverse experts from industry and academia discuss their work, including both faculty and student health services researchers and invited external speakers. Seminars will examine methods and applications used in policy and research, will showcase Pitt and HPM’s own research, and will bring people together to discuss health policy and economics.

All HPM faculty are invited to attend and PhD students are expected to attend. On off weeks, PhD students will meet for professional development/journal clubs to be facilitated by Lindsay Sabik and Eric Roberts.

Thursday 5/30 12:00PM - 1:00PM

The opioid crisis is a public health emergency, responsible for tens of thousands of deaths annually, s well as opioid-related morbidity among the millions suffering from opioid use disordr, common comorbid disorders such as Hepatitis C and HIV, and related disorders such as neonatal opioid withdrawal syndrome. Policymakers have responded at both the federal and state level, but effective responses are challenged by the evolving nature of the crisis. This seminar will examine some of the challenges in implementing and evaluating policies addressing the opioid crisis, and discussing opportunities for future approaches to the evolving crisis.

Presented by Bradley D. Stein, MD, PhD, MPH

Part of the Special Health Services Research Seminar Series, sponsored by the Center for Research on Health Care, VA Center for Health Equity Research and Promotion, and the Division of General Internal Medicine. This special seminar is co-hosted by Pitt Public Health.
