School of Public Health Department of Biostatistics and Health Data Science faculty members Yan Ma, PhD, chair and professor, and Ying Ding, PhD, professor and associate dean of graduate academic affairs, have been elected Fellows of the American Statistical Association (ASA).
This distinction is reserved for individuals who have made outstanding contributions to statistical science.
It further recognizes Ma and Ding for their exemplary leadership, research excellence, and dedication to advancing the field. Their work has significantly impacted both academic and professional statistical communities, reflecting a sustained record of scholarly achievement and service.
Ma has demonstrated exceptional skill in developing and applying innovative statistical methods to advance health sciences; leading biostatistics departments; mentoring junior statisticians and clinical researchers; and promoting diversity in statistics. Ding has made broad contributions to biostatistics and health data science, particularly in survival analysis, and has shown exemplary leadership, mentorship, and service to the statistical community, fostering collaboration and communication.

Election to ASA Fellow is among the highest honors in the discipline and signifies national recognition of their influence and accomplishments. The number of new fellows elected per year is limited to one third of one percent of the membership of the ASA.
