Pitt Public Health faculty member wins Winters Foundation Award

The Department of Epidemiology’s own Alexander Sundermann, DrPH, assistant professor, was recently selected for the Winters Foundation Award. Sundermann’s winning proposal, titled Enhancing Healthcare Outbreak Investigations of Waterborne Pathogens, aims to improve healthcare outbreak response by advancing methods to detect and prevent the spread of waterborne bacterial infections in hospitals, specifically nontuberculous mycobacteria and Pseudomonas.

The Winters Foundation, which annually grants five to six $10,000 awards to junior faculty in the Pittsburgh area, recognized Sundermann for his innovative approach to addressing public health challenges posed by waterborne pathogens. This grant will support his research efforts to improve the investigation of healthcare-associated outbreaks, furthering the foundation’s mission of fostering promising early-career researchers in public health.

The University is thrilled to celebrate Sundermann’s achievement and looks forward to seeing the impact of his research on public health practices both locally and globally.
