Pitt Public Health Dean Maureen Lichtveld, MD, MPH, spent her final term as board chair of the Consortium of Universities for Global Health (CUGH) presenting at the group’s 16th annual conference, “Innovating and Implementing in Global Health for a Sustainable Future.”
Unified in their goal of fostering interdisciplinary collaboration, policy innovation and sustainable solutions to global health challenges, the meeting, held February 20-23 in Atlanta, Ga, brought together experts, students and practitioners from around the world.
Particularly grateful for her tenure as chair of the CUGH Board of Directors, Lichtveld expressed deep appreciation for the organization's leaders. “Above all, I am particularly heartened by the vast cadre of emerging leaders at CUGH who are boldly stepping up to counter the challenges our communities are facing worldwide,” she said. Lichtveld, who began her term as chair in August 2022, credited CUGH for its “unwavering resolve.”
Dean Lichtveld presented as part of the meeting’s pre-conference session, "Global Health Reimagined: From Vision to Action," which addressed innovative, equitable, and sustainable approaches to research, education and practice in global health. The session was informed by the development of an article authored by Lichtveld and other members of the CUGH board in 2024 and published in the Annals of Global Health.
Lichtveld’s insights and strategic vision during her time as CUGH board chair were praised by fellow broad member, Thomas Quinn, MD, director of the Johns Hopkins Center for Global Health. “Thank you for always being our guiding light,” he said, acknowledging her service.
