Professor of Epidemiology Caterina Rosano, MD, MPH, has been honored with the 2024 Provost’s Award for Excellence in Doctoral Mentoring. This accolade is a testament to the University's commitment to fostering an environment where mentoring is held in the highest regard, recognizing individuals who exemplify outstanding guidance and support to doctoral students.
Professor Rosano's dedication to mentoring has significantly impacted the academic and professional journeys of numerous doctoral candidates. By embodying the essence of high-quality scholarship and encouraging students to tackle complex problems and develop their research topics, Professor Rosano has not only contributed to their success but also to their ability to make original scholarly contributions. Many of her mentees have achieved remarkable success, securing positions as research scientists, faculty members, and postdoctoral fellows at renowned institutions like Johns Hopkins and Mount Sinai.
In response to receiving this award, Professor Rosano emphasized the collective effort behind this achievement saying, “The credit for effective mentoring should primarily go to the high quality of our doctoral students, and the outstanding infrastructure of our department and, more at large, our school.”
In honor of this achievement, Professor Rosano will receive a $2,500 cash prize and will be publicly recognized at a special event on March 20, 2024. She will also share insights into her mentoring philosophy and experiences during the award presentation, further illuminating the collaborative nature of her mentoring success.
