Personal Statement

My work is focused on the design, coordination and analysis of multi-center cohort studies and randomized clinical trials (RCTs). I am currently responsible for data management and analysis of the eight-site NIH-funded, “Observational Study of Hepatitis B Virus (HBV) in Patients Coinfected with Human Immunodeficiency Virus (HIV),” as well as the 21-site industry-funded study, “Understanding the Role of Novel HBV Assays to Improve the Characterization of Acute and Chronic Hepatitis B,” both ancillary studies to the Hepatitis B Research Network (HBRN), comprised of 28 clinical centers, an immunology center, a central laboratory, and NIH scientists, for which I am a co-investigator of the Data Coordinating Center (DCC). For over a decade I was a co-investigator of the DCC of the Longitudinal Assessment of Bariatric Surgery (LABS) study, which followed approximately 2,500 US adults with severe obesity for seven years following bariatric surgery, and I was responsible for the data management and analysis of the three-site NIH-funded study, “Psychosocial Issues and Bariatric Surgery,” investigating psychopathology, eating pathology and quality of life before and following surgery. I have also been a co-investigator of three RCTs of lifestyle (i.e., physical activity and diet) interventions.  My work is regularly published in high-impact journals and reported in the national and international news (see links below).
