Mark O’Hern was appointed president of WVU Medicine East in August 2024.
Prior to his current role, he president of UPMC East and UPMC McKeesport where he was responsible for business development and strategic planning in support of the successful operation of UPMC East and UPMC McKeesport.
Before his time as president, O’Hern served as vice president of operations at UPMC East and UPMC McKeesport, where he provided executive leadership for the day-to-day operations of both hospitals. He has also been executive director of UPMC Children’s Community Pediatrics (CCP), where he was responsible for leading the operational aspects of the largest pediatric and adolescent primary care medical network in Western Pennsylvania, the director of cardiovascular services for UPMC Presbyterian Shadyside, the flagship hospitals for UPMC and several other positions within the UPMC system.
O’Hern is a past president of the Cornell University Human Ecology Alumni Association Board. He served for three years as a board member for the Wilmerding/McKeesport YMCA. Current board positions include March of Dimes Western PA, Sampson Family YMCA, as well as McKee Point Development Group.
O’Hern holds a master’s degree in health administration from Cornell University and a Bachelor of Science in policy analysis and management from Cornell University.
