My primary technical areas are evaluation and survey research methods. Most recently, my work has focused on the areas of minority health disparities, long-term care services and institutions, emergency and disaster medicine, and substance abuse intervention programs. I have designed, directed, or participated in more than 300 evaluation studies, dealing with a wide range of health and human service programs and organizations. Teaching I teach the doctoral seminar in ""Advanced Evaluation Techniques"" and participate in other courses as a lecturer. I also mentor doctoral and master's degree students and direct the Certificate Program in Evaluation Science. Service I have served as a member of the National Academy of Sciences/National Research Council, committee on emergency medical services, and chair of the Health Services Research Training Study Section of the Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality (1999 to 2003). I serve as a member of the editorial boards of Journal of Social Work in Public Health, Prehospital and Disaster Medicine and Race and Social Problems. I am a member of the Behavioral Sciences Council, Association of Schools of Public Health, and the scientific advisory committee for the International Resuscitation Research Center. I have been a visiting faculty member at the Institute of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine, Lisbon, Portugal; and the University of the West Indies, Mona, Jamaica. I also serve as a member of the Board of Examiners, Sir Venkateswara University, Andhra Pradesh, India and served as an advisor/instructor, World Health Organization Center, Kobi, Japan.
