Peddada presents at international data science workshop in Jilin China

BIOST Chair Shyamal Peddada presented "Identification of rhythmic signals in oscilatory systems with applications to chronobiology at the July 2019 International Workshop on Data Science at Jilin University, Changchun, Jilin, China.   

Boyd selected for JSM Diversity Workshop and Mentoring Program

Kristina Boyd (BIOST '19) has been selected to participate in the JSM Diversity Workshop and mentoring program at this year's Joint Statistical Meetings taking place in Denver July 28-31. She was also granted a travel award to attend. Those selected will participate in daily sessions, career enhancement activities, group and individual mentoring, and will have the opportunity to develop a peer network among other participants.   

Biostatistics departmental award recipient for Dean's Day 2019

The Department of Biostatistics awarded two prizes. First place went to Junyao Wang (PhD '20) and second place went to Jerry Zhang (PhD '22).  

2019 Celebration of Student Awards

On April 27, 2019, Pitt Public Health celebrated recent graduates with awards given upon the culmination of a degree program. Delta Omega's honor society inductees were announced and outstanding thesis/essay and dissertation awards were conferred. Outstanding Student Awards were also given at both the master's and doctoral level, as well as Dean's Service Awards.   

Barbour: 2019 Early Career Excellence Award

Kamil Barbour (BIOST ’11, EPI ’10) is an epidemiologist with the National Center for Chronic Disease Prevention and Health Promotion for the CDC, currently serving as team lead of the State Chronic Disease Epidemiology Assignee Program. In this hand-selected role, he supervises four senior-level epidemiologists and leads a prolific research program focused on critical applied epidemiological needs.  

Wei wins Lifetime Data Science Student Paper Award

Congratulations to Yue (Luna) Wei (BIOST '21) who won for Gene-based Association Analysis for Bivariate Time-to-event Data through Functional Regression with Copula Models during this year's Conference on Lifetime Data Science: Foundations and Frontiers meeting May 29-31 in Pittsburgh.   

Zhe Sun among three students to win Distinguished Paper Award at ENAR

Zhe Sun (BIOST '19) presented BAMM-SC: A Bayesian Mixture Model for Clustering Droplet-Based Single Cell Transcriptomic Data from Population Studies at the spring meeting of the International Biometric Society. Congratulations!   

Tao Sun among three students to win Distinguished Paper Award at ENAR

Congratulations to Tao Sun (BIOST '19), who presented work on Coupula-Based Sieve Semiparametric Transformation Model for Bivariate Interval-Censored Data.   

Li among three students to win Distinguished Paper Award at ENAR

Yujia Li (BIOST ') won for work on Simultaneous Estimation of Number of Clusters and Feature Sparsity in Clustering High-Dimensional Data using Resampling Methods. Congratulations!
