Mendez talks Black Maternal Health in Adagio Health's Better Health Outcomes Speakers Series

During Black Maternal Health week (April 11-17), Adagio Health hosted EPI's Dara Mendez, interim director of the Center for Health Equity and member of the Infant Mortality Collaborative for Allegheny County and the Pennsylvania Maternal Morality Review Committee; along with Representative Morgan Cephas (D-Philadelphia), Chairwoman of the Pennsylvania Legislative Black Caucus Subcommittee on Women & Girls of Color.

Mendez recognized some of our One Book, One Community partners engaged in reproductive justice and black maternal health work in the region and throughout PA, encouraging the audience to learn about and get involved with Healthy Start, New Voices in Reproductive Justice, Pittsburgh Brown Mamas, etc. 

She started her presentation with with key metrics and data related to maternal health discussed the implications of racism and oppression, expressing examples from her own research, and talked next steps in addressing Black maternal health.
