image

Mary Hawk, associate professor in BCHS, and Julia Marcus, assistant professor, Harvard Medical School and Harvard Pilgrim Health Care Institute, introduce the harm reduction approach and describe how the principles can be applied to public health messaging during COVID-19. Hawk further discusses the compassionate framework within the public health higher educational system in the COVID-19 era. They discuss how to balance general uncertainty, concerns about what is best for population and personal health, and the tensions between collectivism and individualism. Moderated by James Egan, also of the Department of Behavioral and Community Health Sciences.
