Noble Maseru (BCHS), Director of the Center for Health Equity, recently took part in a Pittsburgh community health panel where he discussed how COVID-19 disproportionately impacts African-American communities and made a call to action for a COVID-19 equity task force to be established in Pittsburgh, which would lend an equity-oriented voice to the current situation.

In the first of the Learning from COVID-19 webinar series, panelists and discussion outlined key challenges around racial disparities, housing, food justice, and the needs and challenges faced in immigrant communities. Also discussed were lessons and strategies for building more responsive politics that include voices of black residents and experts and developing better social safety nets. Questions emerged about how to build broader consciousness about human rights conditions, build cross-sectional peoples' movements, and build capacities of marginalized communities.
