Lisa Bodnar appointed new vice-chair for research

Congratulations to Lisa Bodnar, an associate professor of epidemiology, with tenure, on her appointment as vice-chair for research in the Department of Epidemiology announced Anne Newman, chair of the Department of Epidemiology. Bodnar holds a secondary appointment in the Department of Obstetrics, Gynecology and Reproductive Sciences. Bodnar’s research addresses the impact of maternal nutrition on birth outcomes. She has contributed her experience to several national panels that set guidelines for nutrition during pregnancy, including the U.S. departments of Agriculture and Health and Human Services Pregnancy Working Group that will provide evidence for the 2020 Dietary Guidelines for Americans and the Institute of Medicine Committee to Reevaluate Pregnancy Weight Gain Guidelines. She has published over 100 articles and five book chapters. She currently serves as principal Investigator for two National Institutes of Health R01 grants regarding weight gain during pregnancy. Bodnar received the chancellor’s Distinguished Research Award in 2013, and was the Mary Lewis Endowed Lecturer at Michigan State University Department of Food Science and Human Nutrition last year. She is an associate editor of the American Journal of Epidemiology and a member of the executive committee of the Society of Epidemiology Research.
