BCHS Faculty Assist with ACHD HATS Study

Drs. Ed Ricci and Todd Bear, faculty in the BCHS Institute for Evaluation Science in Community Health, have recently partnered with the Allegheny County Health Department and the Division of Adolescent and Young Adult Medicine at Children’s Hospital of Pittsburgh of UPMC on an adolescent health survey. Read the press release announcement below from Dr. Karen Hacker, Director, ACHD. --------------------------------------------------------- Hello everyone, We are excited to announce the results of the Healthy Allegheny Teens Survey (HATS) are now available. The Division of Adolescent and Young Adult Medicine at Children’s Hospital of Pittsburgh of UPMC, the Institute for Evaluation Science in Community Health at the University of Pittsburgh Graduate School of Public Health (Pitt Public Health), and the Allegheny County Health Department collaborated to conduct a one time, cross sectional, anonymous survey of English speaking youth in the county. The HATS is a representative county-wide random digit dial phone survey conducted in 2014 with over 1600 participants ages 14-19. The data are now publically available through the Allegheny County Health Department. Information about health and behaviors of youth in Allegheny County include: physical activity, nutrition, injuries and violence, substance use including tobacco, and sexual health behaviors, as well as data on issues of local importance such as educational status and protective factors such as social supports and school connectedness. As part of the health department’s efforts to provide data to County residents, we are hosting a data forum to present some of the survey results with the public. Please join Dr. Elizabeth Miller (Children's Hospital of Pittsburgh of UPMC) and the Allegheny County Health Department on August 26, 2015 at the Allegheny Intermediate Unit (AIU) 475 East Waterfront Drive, Homestead, PA 15120 at 6:30 PM. If you have any questions, please e-mail Casey (cmonroe@achd.net). Thank you, Karen Hacker Director Allegheny County Health Department
