GSPH to Co-Host Health Disparities Conference with The Ohio State University College of Public Health

The Ohio State University College of Public Health and GSPH will present a conference titled “Health, Race and Research: Community Engagement to Eliminate Health Disparities” on March 30-31, 2009, at the Blackwell Conference Center on The Ohio State University campus.

The conference will bring together a select group of researchers and community leaders to create a collaborative plan for eliminating health disparities. The featured speakers are all involved in bringing research and communities together to address health disparities in particular populations. Panel discussions, featuring local leaders and advocates, will focus on determining the priorities for collaboration and creating action steps for collaborative approaches linking the university and regional communities.

A pre-conference workshop on Monday, March 30, conducted by the Center for Minority Health, will offer a model of community-based participatory research. This pre-conference workshop will be specifically targeted to academic faculty who are interested in successful strategies for engaging the community through their scholarly work. The activities on Tuesday, March 31, will include community leaders as well as faculty.
