Epidemiology Redesignated as WHO Collaborating Center

GSPH’s Department of Epidemiology has been redesignated as a Pan American Health Organization/World Health Organization Collaborating Center for Disease Monitoring, Telecommunications, and the Molecular Epidemiology of Diabetes Mellitus. The designation is effective until 2012. The center is headed by Ron LaPorte, PhD, professor of epidemiology, and Janice Dorman, PhD, associate professor of epidemiology.

The WHO collaborating centers are institutions that are designated by the director-general to carry out activities in support of the organization’s programs. There are more than 900 WHO collaborating centers in 99 member states working with WHO on areas such as nursing, occupational health, communicable diseases, nutrition, mental health, chronic diseases, and health technologies.
