Organ Donors Matter Campaign

The Department of Health Policy and Management, in collaboration with the Center for Organ Recovery & Education (CORE), will have major presence at the Dick’s Sporting Goods Pittsburgh Marathon and GNC Live Well Health and Fitness Expo on May 3, 2013-May 5, 2013 with their Organ Donors Matter Campaign. The goal of this project is to promote organ donation by using text messaging to reach the general public. Race participants and supporters will have the chance to learn about organ donation by simply sending a text message. At the Health and Fitness Expo, and at the Finish Line, there will be a free photo-booth for runners and supporters. Everyone who texts ‘RUN’ to 94253 will be able to get a free souvenir photo. There are approximately 30,000 race participants, and the crowd at the finish line at Point State Park is expected to reach 100,000. This project is supported by a grant from the Health Resources Services Administration (HRSA) to Dr. Howard Degenholtz. More information is available at www.text2donatelife.org.
