Meet our Faculty: David Finegold

David Finegold began his 40+ year relationship with the University of Pittsburgh as an undergrad and then receiving his MD from the School of Medicine in 1972. Working in biochemistry and pediatrics, he moved into public health as a result of collaboration in his medical work. Finegold is human genetics faculty, he is also the director of Pitt Public Health’s Multidisciplinary Master of Public program. Like many of you, he is ready and excited to get back to 3-dimensional teaching this year.  

Q: What did you want to be when you grew up?
A: A physician. I was drawn to Public Health after I had collaborated with investigators for a long time. Public Health appeared to be a better fit for my interests.

Q: What's the most interesting place you've ever visited?
A: El Nido del Quetzalcóatl - Mexico City. I went for a family wedding, as much of my family lives in Mexico.

Q: What was your “go to” recipe/meal over the last year?
A: Pasta with olive oil, anchovies, and garlic.

Q: What’s the best book you’ve read over the last two years?
A:  Folklorn by Angela Hur

Q: What excites you the most about the new Academic Year?
A: 3 dimensional teaching.

Q: What are some career highlights you would want new students to know about?
A: Pittsburgh Lymphedema Family Study Diabetes Control and Complications Trial investigator.

Q: What School/Department accomplishment or milestone are you most proud of?
A:  Continued invigoration of the MMPH program.

Q: What's your favorite mantra/saying/motto/quote?
A: K.I.S.S. – Keep It Simple [Stupid]
