Joan became the founding director of career services in the office of
student affairs in December of 2007.  Her responsibilities have included
laying the foundation for programs and services that serve students and
alumni while also making connections with employers looking for both
entry-level and advanced talent in public health.   A native of
Pittsburgh, Anson returned to Pitt (was former director of student
affairs for the School of Health and Rehabilitation Sciences) and
Pittsburgh after working in the Baltimore/Washington, D.C. area for 17
years.   It was there where she served in an advisory capacity at two
national health education associations regarding
enrollment management , career promotion and student affairs. 

After her Association experience in the Washington area, she served as
the director of admissions at the University of Baltimore and the Johns Hopkins
Bloomberg School of Public Health. Joan has dedicated the last seven years at
Pitt to developing programs and services that increase students’ capacity to
identify and reach career destinations related to public health. Joan received
her MS Ed from Indiana University in Bloomington, Indiana.  She completed
professional development certificates in management leadership from both Johns Hopkins Leadership Institute (2005) and the National Association of Colleges and
Employers (2011).  In August 2013, she became certified to administer
the Myers-Briggs Type Indicator.   Joan is also certified as a 
as a professional coach after completing a program  from Duquesne University’s School of Leadership and Professional Advancement ( April 2015).
