Dr. Daniel Jacobson López's primary research focuses on the sexual assault of gay Latino and Black male sexual assault survivors. Specifically, his work is centered on enhancing and developing trauma-informed, culturally-relevant and evidenced-based health care services for gay male sexual assault survivors of color. He is currently involved in various research projects focused on violence against gay Black and Latino men, LGBT individuals, and the effects of COVID-19 on people living with HIV/AIDS (PLWHA).
Dr. López was previously an intern with the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) and is a SAMHSA Doctoral Minority Fellow and Schweitzer Fellow alumnus. Currently, he is a CEED Diversity Scholar at the Insitute for Clinical Research Education and Clinical and Translation Science Institute at Pitt.
He is the first Latino PhD graduate at Pitt’s School of Social Work and founder of the first Latinx graduate student organization (LAGOS) at Pitt. He has received awards from Black Men at Penn and the Center for Hispanic Excellence from the University of Pennsylvania, for his advocacy for Black and Latinx students. He is a Licensed Social Worker and a Certified Sexual Assault Counselor. Additionally, he has a doctoral certificate in Gender, Sexuality, and Women's Studies. Daniel is also a trained anti-bias facilitator with the Anti-Defamation League. He is currently Chair of Diversity and Inclusion for UPPDA (first ever to be appointed) and a member of the Plan of Action Against Racial Disparities (PAARD) Committee in IDM, among other executive boards at Pitt.
