Travel & Safety

The University of Pittsburgh requires all staff, faculty, and students traveling as a part of the University to register with its Travel Registry. For details and information about this policy, please view the Travel Registry Guidelines. Additional information about travel registry can be found on the Global Operations website.

Please refer to the PittGlobal Insurance Coverage page for information on and registration for primary medical benefits while traveling internationally.

For tips on planning your trip, including passport and visa information, health and safety tips, insurance, policy, and more, the Center for Global Heath’s Student Travel Guide is a helpful resource.

Students traveling to countries that are currently under State Department Travel Warnings must submit an application to the Safety Abroad Standing Committee and receive a notice of acknowledgement prior to travel. For more information, please see Section III of the University of Pittsburgh’s Guidelines to Studying Abroad in Countries that are Currently Under State Department Travel Warnings. Graduate, doctoral, and professional students in the schools of the Health Sciences can contact cgh@pitt.edu for more information.
