Copyright is a vital part of the academic world, and this workshop will prepare graduate students and interested faculty to understand their rights and responsibilities as copyright holders of their work. Learn about your rights as a creator and user of works, including how to identify who owns the copyright and how you can re-use material under the Fair Use doctrine. For graduate students and faculty advisors, we will cover copyright considerations for theses and dissertations and how to get started early to avoid delays with your submission. Finally, we will cover Copyright Transfer Agreements from major publishers that ask you to sign away your rights as a copyright holder, including how to read these contracts and what your options are for engaging with these agreements.
