Helping Hospitals Address Community Health Needs: A Collaboration Between the Center for Public Health Practice and the Department of Behavioral and Community Health Sciences

The Graduate School of Public Health is committed to improving the health of Pennsylvanians. A team of GSPH public health experts, including Drs. Albert, Burke, Doebler, Nolan and Ricci from BHCS, are available to work with hospitals and to help them comply with the requirements of community health under the new federal tax laws and make a difference in the health status of their service populations.   A two-part Webinar training series is now available through the federally funded Pennsylvania Public Health Training Center, a program of the Center for Public Health Practice. Part I reviews the federal community benefit requirements, introduce the field of public health, and explore the assessment of community needs and preferences. Part II provides recommendations for the identification, implementation, and evaluation of effective community-based interventions.  The training videos and supplemental materials are available for viewing at http://www.cphp.pitt.edu/communityhealth/
