National Advisory Council

Scope of Responsibility

The National Advisory Council will:

  1. Meet at regular intervals with the faculty to:
    a. Provide an environmental assessment of the current trends in health care, public health and health care policy
    b. Evaluate the department’s curriculum and identify programmatic gaps
    c. Anticipate future developments to help guide research and teaching
  2. Report to the Dean about departmental resource needs, deficiencies and opportunities
  3. Assist with fundraising by providing counsel, identifying contacts and communicating with potential donors
  4. Other activities as needed.

In addition, members of the National Advisory Council will be encouraged to:

  1. Serve as ambassadors for the department
  2. Serve as a mentor to a student. (Local members may be asked to be “designated mentors.” Out-of-area members may become supplemental “long-distance mentors” depending on the members’ and students’ interests.)
  3. Help identify opportunities for students in search of summer residencies, post-graduate fellowships and initial employment.

Cohorts are invited to attend three in-person meetings. As of March 19, 2018, Cohort C will have three more meetings, Cohort B will have two more meetings, and Cohort A will have one more meeting. 

The Department of Health Policy and Management is currently in the process of picking new Cohort C members. 

The next National Advisory Council meeting is tentatively scheduled for November 2019.
