Pitt Parking Day 2018
Fri 9/21 9:00AM - 3:00PM
University of Pittsburgh

The Center for Health Equity (CHE) joins in Pitt PARK(ing) Day with an unique installation addressing the concept of health equity and ideal of a smoke-free campus. Through creative energy and experimentation, participants take an otherwise dead, urban parking space and turn it into a pop-up "installation" for a day, raising awareness about the importance of a livable city and helping people to re-think how our streets can be utilized.

Anita Moncrease, associate professor of pediatrics at Wayne State University School of Medicine, and historian of the Historical Hartford Memorial Baptist Church in Detroit, holds strong interests in Black studies, medicine, and history.  These interests inspire her to learn about the histories of the Black medical schools in the United States and to share the journey with her co-creators and lecturers: her nephew, Rashard Ballinger, grandnephew, Demetrius Granberry, and niece Brittani Moncrease. This lecture is presented in conjunction with the exhibit  "Legacy of Black Medical Schools and Departments in the United States Exhibit" on display this April in the Falk Library's Upper Lounge, which tells the forgotten stories of the 19 Black medical schools and departments that existed at one time in the United States.
