Personal Statement

My research aims to heighten the awareness of the long-term effects type 1 diabetes can exert on brain structure and function. These effects can manifest as cognitive impairment which can impede the ability to adhere to complicated daily glucose control regimens. This, in turn, leads to developing, or worsening the severity of, other diabetes complications and quality of life issues.  I combine advanced neuroimaging methodologies with epidemiological principles to identify factors amenable to interventions that could prevent or delay changes to brain structure and function
