Accreditation president visits HPM to learn more about MHA program

image

Anthony Stanowski, president and CEO of the Commission of Accreditation of Healthcare Management Education (CAHME), visited the Department of Health Policy and Management on Wednesday, August 30. His main goals of the visit were to learn more about our MHA program and to stress the importance of CAHME accreditation in advancing the quality of health care management education.

While on campus, he met with a focus group of students, key leaders, and staff. He also toured the Graduate School of Public Health and enjoyed some of the sites on campus (Cathedral of Learning, Heinz Chapel, the Pitt Panther statue, etc.). He specifically noted the high quality and diversity of our students, the research efforts of our faculty, and our ongoing efforts to find meaningful ways to engage alumni across all aspects of our MHA program (as well as other programs within the department).

Pitt’s MHA program was initially accredited by CAHME in 1968. This accrediting body was founded in 1968, and was formerly known as the Accrediting Commission on Education for Health Services Administration (ACEHSA). CAHME adopted its current name in 2004 to reflect a change in strategic direction. The last accreditation site visit for the Pitt MHA program occurred in 2013, and our next scheduled site visit will occur in the Fall of 2020.

If anyone has any questions regarding the CAHME accreditation criteria, process, timelines, etc., please contact Kevin Broom directly at kevinbroom@pitt.edu.
