The MidAtlantic AIDS Education and Training Center is presenting a 2018 World AIDS Day Conference at Alumni Hall on the Pitt Campus. Public Health students are invited to attend grand rounds presentations by the keynote speakers free of charge (lunch NOT included).

Conference Overview: According to the CDC, more than 36.9 million people are living with HIV worldwide. Recent scientific breakthroughs as well as various prevention efforts now point to the possibility of an AIDS-free generation. The World AIDS Day 2018 conference will bring together experts in the field of HIV in order to enable physicians, nurses and other HIV care providers to develop skills to identify and effectively treat those individuals diagnosed with HIV and to recognize signs and symptoms in a diverse population. Experts will talk about prevention, risk reduction, the potential for getting to zero new HIV infections, and much more.

Grand Rounds will be offered to students for free for the following sessions:

1. 8:30am - 9:30am HIV, HCV, and Medication Assisted Opioid Treatment
Ronald Goldschmidt, MD, Professor of Family Community Medicine, UCSF; Principle Investigator, AETC National Clinician Consultation Center

2.  9:30am - 10:30am Global Challenges in HIV
Cheryl Healton, DrPH, Dean of Global Public Health, Professor of Public Health Policy and Management, New York University

3. 2:00pm - 3:00pm Future Challenges and Opportunities in HIV Treatment and Prevention
John Mellors, MD, Professor of Medicine, Chief, Division of Infectious Diseases, Endowed Chair for Global Elimination of HIV/AIDS, University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine

4.  3:00pm - 3:45pm Substance Use and Mental Health
Antoine Douaihy, MD, Director, Addiction Medicine, Department of Psychiatry, University of Pittsburgh

5. 3:45pm - 4:30pm Moving the Agenda Forward: Advocacy and Empowerment
Marla Gold, MD, FACP, Dean Emerita and Professor of Health Management and Policy, Dornsife School of Public Health, Drexel University

Conference Attendance:
Staff/Faculty/Alumni/Public (2 options):

Students (3 options):
Only attending the grand rounds sessions (no lunch) - Students follow normal grand rounds check-in procedure
Abstract registration + Full-day program (w/ lunch) - Students can contact the MAAETC for scholarships - pre-event registration required
Full-day program (w/ lunch) – Students can contact the MAAETC for scholarships – pre-event registration required

Students are encouraged to submit a poster abstract for the World AIDS Day 2018 Conference Poster Session by October 26, 2018. In this case, the registration fee may be waived and students can attend the entire program, including lunch.
