Take a Health Professional to the People Day (TADay)

Saturday 4/20 11:00AM - 3:00PM
Pittsburgh, PA

What is Take a Health Professional to the People Day?

Take a Health Professional to the People Day (TADay) is the University of Pittsburgh Center for Health Equity's (CHE) health promotion and disease prevention initiative in partnership with African American-owned and -operated barbershops in several Pittsburgh communities. TADay takes place in April in recognition of National Minority Health Month.

Date & Location of TADay

Friday, April 20, 2018, at 11:00 a.m.-3:00 p.m. at the following locations:
  • Bat's Barber Shop in East Liberty
  • Big Tom's Barber Shop in the Hill District
  • Willie Tee's Barber Shop in Homewood
  • The Natural Choice in Oakland
  • dWade's Barber Shop in Homewood

Why TADay is Important

On average, African Americans (i.e., Black Americans} have higher incidence and mortality rates for many preventable and chronic conditions such as cardiovascular disease and diabetes. Multiple strategies are needed to address health inequities to improve the health status of African Americans.

What happens on TADay?

Health professionals (doctors, nurses, pharmacists, dentists, nutritionists, health science students, etc.), public health educators, and health organizations volunteer their time to provide screening services and health education in the barbershops. Referrals are made for customers that need additional follow-up care.

How TADay can benefit you

TADay provides a community outreach and training opportunity for health professionals, students, and staff of community organizations to gain hands-on experience working in a trusted venue-the African American barbershop. You can gain valuable insight about the concerns and health care needs of the community to better inform the quality of your care.

How to participate in TADay

TADay registration will open soon. Additional Information will be posted on the CHE website at www.healthequity.pitt.edu

Questions should be emailed to healtheq@pitt.edu
