Abstract: Dr.Blumenthal-Barby will examine the differences between hope and unrealistic optimism, denial, and self-deception. She will then discuss clinical cases to further elucidate these subjectively experienced feelings,before evaluating arguments in favor of and against encouraging (or allowing) hope, unrealistic optimism, and denial.
