Alumni Awards

Alumni Awards

The Alumni Awards are the highest given to alumni by the Graduate School of Public Heatlh in recognition of significant contributions to the field of public health, to the school, or to both. Each year, outstanding alumni from the master's and doctoral programs at Pitt Public Health are chosen to be recognized in these five categories:
  • Distinguished Alumni Award for Practice, presented to an alumnus/na who has made significant contribution to public health practice
  • Distinguished Alumni Award for Research, presented to an alumnus/na who has made significant contribution to research
  • Distinguished Alumni Award for Teaching and Dissemination, presented to an alumnus/na who has made significant contribution to education and dissemination, either in the classroom or in the field
  • The Margaret F. Gloninger Service Award, presented annually since 1993 to to an alumnus/na who has made a significant contribution to the school or to the greater community through volunteer service. This award was established in honor of the late Margaret Fitzgerald Gloninger (MSHyg ’66), Pitt Public Health graduate and former faculty member in maternal and child health.
  • Early Career Excellence Award - presented to an alumnus/na who has made significant achievements early in his or her career.

Delta Omega Initiation Ceremonies

Also at the annual Alumni Awards Dinner in May, new alumni members are inducted into the Pitt Public Health Omicron Chapter of the Delta Omega national honor society in public health. Nominations are accepted each winter. Pitt Public Health's Omicron Chapter recognizes alumni inductees who contribute to the practice of public health and who continue to serve as models for future graduates. Delta Omega membership certificates for graduating students are awarded annually during Convocation Weekend.

Mary Ganguli: 2017 Distinguished Alumni Award for Research

Mary Ganguli is professor of psychiatry and neurology at the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine and professor of epidemiology at Pitt Public Health. Her research focuses on the epidemiology of late-life mental disorders, particularly neurocognitive disorders, including Alzheimer’s disease.
